Professor Ganyir Lombin

PROF. GANYIR LOMBIN, OFR, FSSSN

Professor Ganyir Lombin was born on 8th March, 1946 at Dibin Langtang,
Plateau State. He had his Primary and Secondary education at the COCIN
Central Primary School Langtang and the famous Government Science
School Kuru respectively. Obtained his Cambridge GCE Advanced Level at
the Federal School of Science Lagos and his B.Sc (Agric Science) Hons, at
the Ahmadu Bello University in 1968. Was admitted to the Ph.D degree
(Agronomy/Soil Science) at the University of Ibadan in 1974; Post-doctoral
Graduate Fellowship (Soil Science) 1980 – 1981 at the University of Guelph,
Ontario, Canada; LL.B degree at the Ahmadu Bello University in 1988 and
B.L. (Hons), Nigerian Law School Victoria Island Lagos, 1990.
Career Background – Professional & Managerial Experience and
Institutions Served.

Rose from Assistant Lecturer/Assistant Research Fellow (1970) to Professor of Soil Science at Ahmadu Bello University in 1983 and served on several academic and management Committees in the University (Head of Department, Professional and Academic Board, University Senate & Council,
Central Appointments & Promotion Committee, and Co-ordinator of several External Donor-funded and World Bank supported research projects. Membership of the Governing Bodies of other National Institutions/Committees
 Chairman, Plateau State Water Resources Development Board; Member (later Chairman), Lower Benue River Development Authority; Chairman, College of Education Gindiri; member, National Constituent Assembly for preparing and drafting the 1989 Constitution.
 Director General NALDA, 1991 – 1999
 Nigeria’s Permanent Representative to the Rome-based United Nations Agencies for Food and Agriculture (FAO, World Food Programme and IFAD) 2000 – 2007.
 Retired from the Federal Civil Service in April, 2005
 Disengaged from the permanent Mission of Nigeria to UN Agencies for Food and Agriculture, in 2007.
 Presently a Free-lance Consultant in Agric Projects Management & Rural Development.
